Anderson High School Men's Lacrosse

Academic Eligibilty

No Pass – No Play rules: Players with any grade lower than 70 (or Pre-AP/AP grade lower than 60) will be ineligible to play in regular season games for a minimum of 3 weeks. Ineligible players are expected to participate in practice and attend games, but may not "dress out" for the game. Eligibility status can be regained if the player is passing at the 3-week progress report.

Dear Parents,
As we start the new season we always have the question of academic eligibility and what rules do we follow. The basic guidelines are below but we need to really send the right message to our players and show that grades and behavior have consequences. I want to commend the coaches that have enforced No-Pass, No-Play even to the detriment of their playoffs and against the wishes of their various programs and parents. I also want to thank the programs that follow the standard and enforce it. I am proud to serve in a District where we hold academic and behavior standards above winning and hope that all of you will continue this in all your programs. In the end an ineligible player is always discovered and the signal it sends to the player and his teammates is the wrong one. Thanks for your support in following this guideline. The closer we mirror UIL the more support we are able to get from our sponsor schools.

ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES:

Restricting game play to academically eligible student athletes with satisfactory conduct is a practice that was adopted voluntarily by the Central District teams several years ago. We have a mix of Public and Private schools so there is not a uniform standard of enforcement. A player is eligible to play in Central District Varsity and JV lacrosse games when his school reports satisfactory grades and conduct, usually through a 6 weeks grade report, or interim progress report. There is no single standard for eligibility or for becoming eligible for interscholastic play. Most of our programs are public, and they're governed by the University Interscholastic League (UIL) No-Pass, No-Play rules. Their standards and procedures don't apply to nonsectarian private, parochial, or home schooling situations. Each school conference/accrediting authority has its own standards and restoration procedures.

Who enforces the side-lining and remediation of ineligible players? You do, and your enforcement is voluntary but if you are found to be using an ineligible player there can be issues for the player and team from the school district.

What guidelines do you follow?
Those of the school the child attends.

How about Home-schooled players?
Their school/teacher determines eligibility and restoration of eligibility.

Who handles questions and/or complaints?
We will work with the presidents and coaches of the team(s) involved to reach a reasonable resolution about allegations of ineligible players.
